The Detroit Pistons won't use the NBA's amnesty clause to waive one of their high-priced players before the season, a person with knowledge of the situation said today. The person requested anonymity because teams aren't allowed to discuss the league's amnesty clause. The move is not surprising despite three players on the Pistons who were considered candidates for the new provision. One option was Rip Hamilton, who is on the books for roughly $19 million over the next two seasons. The Pistons have almost traded Hamilton several times and all Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars needs is one contender to think Hamilton is a needed piece to challenge for an NBA title. And if Hamilton, 33, is not moved before the season opener next month, expect him to be in play at the trade deadline.
