Player Injured Before Heat-Spurs Game

On Friday evening, the Miami Heat are in Texas facing off against the San Antonio Spurs for their second preseason game.  

Before Friday's matchup, R.J. Hampton pulled his hamstring, and the Heat announced that he had been ruled out for the game.  

Via The Heat: "#MIAvsSAS INJURY UPDATE: RJ Hampton pulled his right hamstring in pregame warmups and will not play in tonight’s game vs the Spurs."

Hampton spent last year with the Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons.

He averaged 6.4 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per contest while shooting 43.0% from the field and 35.3% from the three-point range in 47 regular season games.

This summer, he was waived by the Pistons and then signed a two-way deal with the Heat. 

The Heat played their first preseason game on Tuesday evening when they defeated LaMelo Ball and the Charlotte Hornets by a score of 113-109.

Hampton played 14 minutes and had three rebounds and three assists.  

Hampton was initially the 24th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and spent the first half of his rookie year with the Denver Nuggets

Over three seasons, the 22-year-old has career averages of 7.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per contest while shooting 41.0% from the field and 34.2% from the three-point range in 162 games. 

As for the Heat, they are coming off a year where they were the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference.  

They made the NBA Finals for the second time in four seasons but lost to the Denver Nuggets in five games.
