Marcus Camby, born March 22, 1974 in Hartford, Connecticut is joining the New York Knicks for the second time in his career. Marcus will be a welcomed addition to the core players that surround Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony. In his senior year at Hartford High School, Marcus averaged 27 points 11 rebounds 8 blocks and 8 assists per game with a perfect 27-0 record. He was named Connecticut Player of the Year. The question most media people and writers had was, can Marcus do this on the collegiate level. Marcus enrolled at UMASS and was coached by John Calipari, an up and coming coach at the time. Camby was a block machine and led the Minuteman to a Final Fourappearance in 1996. He recorded 43 blocks in 11 games setting a March Madness record. Camby was selected 2nd overall in the 1996 draft by the Toronto Raptors. At 6’11”, Marcus was an immediate presence on the glass, along with his shot blocking abilities. Although Marcus was skinny and needed to add weight, he still established himself as a rookie.
