According to Adrian Wojnarowski, ( @WojYahooNBA ) the Portland Trail blazers have hired former Mavs assistant Terry Stotts to become their teams 14th head coach in team history. Terms of the deal are not known. Stotts will replace interim coach Kaleb Canales. ” Terry is one of the elite offensive minds in the NBA, has extensive experience with multiple organizations and was instrumental in the Dallas Mavericks winning the 2011 NBA Championship,” Blazers GM Neil Olshey said in a statement. The Mavericks however, have lost two of their top established Assistant coaches in the last few years, the first being Dwayne Casey, who was highly regarded by Current Head Coach of the Dallas Mavericks Rick Carlisle before receiving the gig with Toronto. And now that leads us to another subtraction to the Mavs coaching staff, a graduate from the university Oklahoma, current head coach of the Blazers Terry Stotts. Who has experience  being the man of the crop on a coaching staff, being a head coach with the Hawks ( 2002-2004 ) and then again serving as the head coach with the Milwalkee Bucks ( 2005-2007 ). Terry Stotts was a huge part while contributing to the Mavs championship in 2011, valued as the teams offensive Coordinator. Rick Carlisle  recently had an interview with The Oregonian Live and had nothing but praise on how Stotts compares with the coaching market, ”Of all the coaches presently in play, Terry is by far the best available. He’s a professional and understands the process of NBA coaching and how to communicate and teach young players.” Carlisle also said that if Stotts ends up leaving, he wouldn’t even have a clue who to replace him with. Sources tell 110 Sportz Talk that, “Mavericks will likely add short term solutions to replace Stotts on their staff.” The Blazers get a guy that is polished in terms of experience, they also get a rejuvenated coach that at the end of the day loved the Mavericks organization but also wanted the feeling of becoming the Head Coach again. Stotts is looking to improve a 28-38 record this previous year and with the 2012 projected roster. New comers Damian Lillard, Myers Leaonard, and a lethal double-double threat PF in Lamarcus Aldridge, I certainly like their chances. The Blazers have also matched Minnesota’s four year Offer sheet worth more than 46 million to bring back versatile SF Nicolas Batum. With a rebuffed roster on hand for offensive minded Stotts, Portland fans are expecting to at least make the playoffs afer they failing to secure their fourth consecutive playoff appearance.       Related articles
