Oregon Sports News:
We have all heard the phrase before: somebody being "wise beyond their years". I've been thinking about this phrase the past couple days.
This current Portland Trail Blazers team has taken incredible heat from the media on being young, inexperienced and unprepared to compete in the league right now. But I would like to argue that this team is a lot closer than a lot of people give them credit for. They have shown that by winning 3 overtime games so far this year.
Let me explain ...
I have coached high school athletics since I got out of high school. I study other coaches from all sports trying to get an edge. One thing I learned from Florida State football coach Jimbo Fisher is the phrase, "Effort and Execution". Every coach wants a team’s 100% effort and full execution throughout the game. But through my experience coaching, crunch time is the hardest to keep the team’s focus and keep on track to finish out a game.
This young Blazers team h...
BEST OF MAXIM
Time to dig right in with the rookie who is turning heads across the league for the Trail Blazers.
Damian Lillard was the No. 6 overall pick in the 2012 draft and he is averaging an astounding 19.2 points, 6 assists, and 3 rebounds a game for the Portland Trail Blazers this year. Rookie of the year honors are his to lose at this point. Lillard came in and took the starting point...
J.J. Hickson was on the cover of the first Cavs Zine. Nothing can ever happen to change that.
We had high hopes for J.J. as a Cavalier once too, but sometimes the NBA gods have other plans.
He ended up in Sacramento for a time last season and things were looking pretty bad. Good news for Hickson is that he's now settled into a new home as a productive member of the Portland...

CLEVELAND -- Portland Trail Blazers forward Nicolas Batum had a close miss at the end of the first overtime period. He wasn't about to be denied given a second chance. Batum's 3-pointer with 0.2 seconds remaining propelled Portland to a 118-117 win over Cleveland in double overtime Saturday before 16,624 at Quicken Loans Arena. Batum's 12-footer at the end of overtime...
CLEVELAND (AP) -- Nicolas Batum's 3-pointer with 0.2 seconds left in the second overtime gave the Portland Trail Blazers a 118-117 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night.
Trailing 117-115 with 2.5 seconds remaining, Portland called timeout and inbounded near midcourt. Damian Lillard passed to Batum, who hit a fadeaway jumper from the right corner in front of...

With a dazzling 17 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 steal and 1 block, Nicolas Batum showed why he is the darling of the fantasy community. He also seems to be out of his recent “funk,” averaging 19 1/2 points, 10 boards and 1 1/2 blocks in the past 2 games. He joined rookie Damian Lillard (24 points, 3 rebounds, 9 assists and an unfortunate 1-8 from three point land) and stud...
The Charlotte Bobcats have already won more games this season than last year. While they didn’t win Monday night’s game against the Portland Trailblazers, BJ Mullens certainly had one of the plays of the night with his dunk over LaMarcus Aldridge. Mullens is having the best season as a pro, averaging career-highs in points [...]
Byron Mullens tossed LaMarcus Aldridge on one of the more nasty posters we have seen this year. Wait, what?
You heard that correctly. During today’s game between the Trailblazers and the Bobcats the seven-foot center out of Ohio State took flight from inside the free throw line and soared over Aldridge to complete the one-handed jack hammer. Quite the athletic play from the...
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Portland Trail Blazers pulled off a remarkable comeback on Monday night, rallying from an 18-point deficit in the final six minutes of regulation and beating the Charlotte Bobcats 118-112 in overtime. The Trail Blazers trailed 92-74 with 5:17 left in the fourth quarter before erupting to outscore Charlotte 28-10 to close out regulation. They tied the...
Things haven't been going well for Portland. They are cursed with injuries and their team always seems to have a let down in store. Things can't be worse than Byron "Don't call me BJ" Mullens dunks on you. Hopefully the Blazers do the right thing and trade LaMarcus!
