Back in January, BJ Mullens seemed to be showing a lot of promise.  He was coming off the bench stroking the jump shot, providing a nice offensive boost for a Bobcat team that has always struggled to put points on the board.  Things didn’t go so smoothly after he was inserted into the starting lineup, though.  His jumper stopped falling like it had been, and other problems included his poor rebounding and defensive difficulties against first-string players.  Basically, he looked a bit too one dimensional.  He returned to the bench and his minutes dried up.

With the Bobcats in the midst of an 11-game losing streak, Paul Silas has opted to give Mullens another shot in the starting lineup, but at the four this time.  Through four games, although all Bobcat losses, the BJ experiment seems to be working out much better.  He’s averaging 19 PPG on 46%, and most importantly, he’s doing other things.  He’s had a pair of 14-rebound performances, a couple of multi-block showings, and he’s even dunking on people…

Good to see Mully mixing it up a little bit.  He’s a pretty athletic guy, and he’s got that excellent jumper with three-point range.  He should be a player who sticks around for a decade plus as long as he works hard to improve on his weaknesses.
