When Mikhail Prokhorov bought the Brooklyn (formerly New Jersey) Nets back in 2010, he promised an NBA Championship within five years. It is two years later and during that time the Nets went 46-102, not coming anywhere near the playoffs. However, after keeping Deron Williams and Brook Lopez and adding Joe Johnson this offseason, the Nets look like a team on the rise and Prokhorov is not straying from his title prediction. "Every team has a grand plan,” Prokhorov said, “and we're moving slowly, step by step, because it's easy to make a strong team, but it's very difficult to make a championship team. So we are on the right way and I'm expecting our championship within three years now.” Prokhorov clearly is not short on confidence, and that’s probably a good thing for a Nets team that has been stuck in the NBA basement for too long. I do not think anyone will be betting on Prokhorov’s prediction to come true this year. They do not measure up ...

Nets Owner Mikhail Prokhorov Says He Expects Brooklyn to Win Title Within Three Years

Mikhail Prokhorov cut the ribbon to open the new home of the Brooklyn Nets, the Barclays Center, on Friday. Within minutes, Prokhorov also told reporters that he expects his team to start winning soon -- and big. "We are on the right way, and I'm expecting our championship within three years," he said. Prokhorov bought the former New Jersey Nets in 2009 and has since...

Nets play prank on guard Brooks

Being a rookie in the NBA is not always a dream come true. First-year players need to put up with a lot of nonsense, from lugging around bags for veterans to making late-night Taco Bell runs for a star with the munchies. The hazing is an unfortunate cross rookies must bear without complaint, but at least it is only for one year. Unless, of course, you are MarShon Brooks. Brooks...

Nets GM King optimistic about revamped roster

Brooklyn Nets general manager Billy King is optimistic about a revamped roster that will debut in the new Barclays Center. Two months after having only four players under contract when the free agency period began, King believes he's assembled a team that can compete in the Eastern Conference. King said Tuesday at the team training center that ''every player we added...

The Brooklyn Nets cheerleaders’ uniforms will look unlike any other cheerleaders’ uniform in the NBA

It has become evident that the Brooklyn Nets are on a mission to create a persona starkly different from the one they had while playing in New Jersey. There are the new black and white jerseys, the rustic Barclays Center, and the thought by some that the franchise is cool. Which was all done not by accident. But all of those changes weren’t apparently enough for the Nets. They...

Mikhail Prokhorov Expecting Championship for Brooklyn Nets Within Three Years is Only Mostly Crazy

In a city that includes Rex Ryan among its sports personalities, preseason prognostications in New York should be taken with one of those big grains of salt that flavors the soft pretzels sold on Manhattan street corners. Joe Namath once shocked the world by guaranteeing a Jets victory over the Colts in Super Bowl III. Now a New York franchise seems remiss if some member of the organization...

Brooklyn, Barclays Center bracing to steal show

Consider Madison Square Garden on watch. Luring the Nets from New Jersey was only Step 1 in Brooklyn's metamorphosis into an entertainment hot spot. Next up for the borough, a ruthless bid in stealing the spotlight and the stars from MSG, New Jersey's Prudential Center, and any other venue that books boldface names in music and sports. There's a new kid in town, folks...

Former Spur Udoka recalls journey to becoming assistant coach

Former San Antonio Spurs player Ime Udoka will be back in the silver and black this coming season, though he won’t be dawning the typical Spurs jersey fans are accustomed to seeing him wear. Instead he’ll most likely be wearing a Spurs polo or some sort of business suit. In an entertaining piece by Ken Rodriguez for Spurs.com, Rodriguez explains how Udoka made the decision...
