MIAMI Rashard Lewis is joining the Heat. Lewis agent, Colin Bryant, told FOX Sports Florida Tuesday that Lewis will sign Wednesday. He will a deal for the minimum salary of 1.35 million. The free-agent forward is a two-time All-Star. The 14-year veteran had his contract bought out June 30 by New Orleans for 13.7 million. Money, therefore, was not considered a big obstacle. Hes made a lot of money in his life, said Jarrel Hartfield, Lewis coach at Atlief Eskin High School in Houston. He wants to win a championship. After this season, Lewis will have made more than 150 million in his career. Lewis will join free agent guard Ray Allen in signing with the Heat on Wednesday. Lewis and Allen were teammates in Seattle from February 2003 through the 2006-07 season. Allen played a role in luring Lewis to Miami. They are very, very close, Hartfield said of Alen and Lewis. "And Rashards mom and Ray Allens mom are very close. I would go up there (to Seattle when Allen and Lewis were teammates) and I would see that. Lewis, 32, averaged 10.7 points last season with Washington while bothered by a foot problem. He was traded to New Orleans after the season, with the understanding he would have his contract bought out and become a free agent. In his 14-year career, Lewis has averages of 16.1 points and 5.6 rebounds. He had his ups and downs after signing a six-year, 118 million contract with Orlando in the summer of 2007, helping the Magic to the 2009 Finals but then falling off. But Hartfield, who retired in 2006, believes the 6-foot-10 Lewis has plenty left to help the Heat. He said he would provide outside shooting and more. First of all, hes such a loyal team guy, Hartfield said. Hell move the ball around. And his length definitely will help with rebounding.
