Many apologies for not giving this play its proper due in Saturday's paper. But space and time constraints sometimes get the best of us.
Better late than never, though, so we have to rehash the outrageous play that Matt Carroll and James Singleton teamed up for with just over five minutes left in the fourth quarter Friday at Indiana.
The situation was this: Jason Terry missed a 3-pointer and the ball was headed out of bounds. But Singleton made a leaping save that bounced off a Pacers player and was headed back out of bounds.
This is where it gets good.
Carroll figured he could get to the ball before it went OB, so he leaped over the end line and flipped it back in bounds. While this was happening, Singleton came back into play, got both feet down on the floor, nabbed the ball and flew in on the baseline for a thundering dunk.
It wasn't an important play. All it did was put the Mavericks up by 24. But it was an entertaining moment in a blowout win.
Oh yes. It also was No. 1 on virtually all highlight-reel countdowns.
