PLAYERS: Steve Nash
TEAMS: Los Angeles Lakers
Steve Nash struggled through injuries this past season, playing in only 50 of the Lakers' 82 games during the regular season, and two of their four playoff games. He suffered through hip, hamstring and other injuries that required epidural shots to get him onto the court. But that is not going to stop Nash from taking part in his summer passion. The 39-year-old point guard is holding his sixth annual Showdown in Chinatown in New York on June 26. The event draws NBA and international soccer stars to the pitch in Lower Manhattan for an 8-on-8 game to raise money for Nash's foundation. And this year, Nash has added a second event in Los Angeles on July 14th. Despite the injury issues, Nash said in a conference call today that he will be out there. "I absolutely plan on playing in both. I'm still rehabbing right now, but with only a few weeks left I should be good to go and playing in both." Let's be clear about these events. They are not arduous, Wo...

Dwight Howard wants to play for Spurs?

So far Dwight Howard has been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, and Dallas Mavericks. But now the prized free agent is reportedly interested in joining the Spurs, Steve Kyler of HoopsWorld.com reports on Thursday. Is this just a case of wanting to play for the best team, or does Howard actually see himself playing at the AT&T Center in San Antonio? Howard...

Amnesty clause: What it means for the 2013-14 Lakers

Nothing is sports is black and white. We try to make it that way, of course, to say certain decisions are indisputably right and others unequivocally wrong. Thats just how this works. Compartmentalization is king. But still, its hard to know what ligaments will snap and which bones will wear weaker than they should, which temperaments will suit a team and which will set it off...

Pau Gasol ‘Humbled’ to Win NBA Social Difference Award for Work With Kids Battling Cancer

The world learned two things about Pau Gasol on Thursday. 1. He is on Twitter. 2. He is apparently pretty good at it. Gasol does more than just tweet about what he eats for lunch, though. The Lakers forward was honored with the “Social Difference Award,” really the only award of consequence in the NBA Social Media Awards, which honored the likes of Russell Westbrook for his “trendsetting”...

Kobe Bryant's parents apologize for selling his stuff

Recently Kobe Bryant's mother gave a lot of his old memorabilia to an auction house in New Jersey for them to sell.  When Kobe learned of this he filed a lawsuit against the company, Goldin Auctions.  Goldin then filed a counter suit, claiming that Kobe's mom was the owner of the items.  In doing so they also revealed that they'd given Bryant's parents a $450,000...

Shaq: Dwight Has To 'Get Into The Same Mood I Was In'

Shaquille O'Neal has criticized Dwight Howard in the past and did so again on Tuesday when he said the Los Angeles Lakers' big man has been too nice in his career and must stiffen up. "He's too nice," O'Neal said. "I'm a connoisseur of giggling and playing and all that and making you laugh and playing with the fans, but when I cross that line,...

World Series of Poker invites Kobe Bryant to play, Kobe declines

With the passing of Lakers owner Jerry Buss, there will be one spot open at this year’s World Series of Poker since Buss was an avid player in one of the biggest poker tournaments in the world. The WSOP Twitter page recently sent out in an invite to Kobe Bryant to play in Buss honor: Poker misses Dr. Buss. Game. Class. We invite @kobebryant to play in tribute. #sharksvsmamba twitter...

Magic thinks Rockets are the best fit for Howard

The NBA season isn't even officially over and one of the main topics thus far has been this: where will Dwight Howard land in the offseason? The Lakers, Rockets, Mavericks, and even the Spurs are supposedly the places the star center is considering. Howard probably doesn't even know where he will land, but former Laker star Magic Johnson has his own option where he should...

Dwight Howard to voice talking turkey in “Free Birds” movie

It’s not often that I get the opportunity to call Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard, a talking turkey, but he will be lending his voice to a talking turkey in an upcoming animated motion picture. The movie is called “Free Birds” which will be produced by Relativity/Reel FX and D-12 will voice a time traveling bird: Howard plays Cold Turkey, one of the Wild Turkeys that...

Kobe Takes on 2-Year-old Titus Ashby in Shooting Competition (Video)

Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, to take on 2-year-old YouTube sensation Titus Ashby, in a shooting competition after Shaq couldn’t get the job done. I really enjoy the new fun-loving Kobe, I hope he’s here to stay. Check out “Clash of the Titus” here: H/T to Pro Basketball Talk for the video.

Kobe and Kimmel to talk for charity in LA

Kobe Bryant will sit down with late night host Jimmy Kimmel for a conversation at the Nokia Theatre on Aug. 15 to raise money toward eliminating homelessness in the Los Angeles area. ''Kobe Up Close'' will feature Bryant talking about his career and sharing some of his favorite stories with Kimmel. Tickets for the event range from $25 to $200. All proceeds will...

Kobe Turns Down WSOP Invite

Kobe Bryant (seen above with his best poker face) received an official twitter invite to play in the 2013 World Series of Poker, but turned them down. It was actually a pretty serious thing – Jerry Buss was a huge poker fan, and the invitation was in his honor. He had to decline due to doctor imposed travel restrictions. Is it me, or is Kobe actually likeable on twitter now? No...

Dwight Howard will voice a turkey in a movie about time-traveling turkeys

This is actually happening. Perceived as a "soft" big man, Dwight Howard will be voicing the character "Cold Turkey" in a movie about time-traveling turkeys.

The Lakers Heel

It’s safe to say that I don’t cheer for anyone to get hurt. This idea has turned into a comical moment for me and my friends by one of us saying to the other, with a huge grin on our face, that “we NEVER like to see anyone get hurt, but…” Photo Credit: AP Photo/Mark J. Terrill So you could only imagine how I feel about the man who gets every call in the book, yet it...
