The marriage between the Philadelphia 76ers and its head coach and city legend, Doug Collins appears to be headed towards an awkward divorce. Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Bob Ford is reporting from various league sources that 76ers brass would prefer Collins not return for the 2013-2014 season, and they would prefer he simply quits or retires so they don’t have to pay him. Collins has one season and $4.5 million left on his contract, and is likely to just walk away and forfeit that money.  This Sixers would prefer that resolution so they don’t have to pay him, but either way he’s good as gone. “I think he’s gone at the end of the year. He’ll be moving on,” said one NBA source with intimate knowledge of the situation. “He’ll decide to leave, and they won’t be upset about it.
