MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Bucks and head coach Scott Skiles have mutually agreed to part ways immediately, and assistant coach Jim Boylan will take over as interim head coach, according to multiple reports. In the midst of his fifth season with the Bucks, Skiles was in the final year of his contract. This year's team started the season 16-12, but Milwaukee has lost four straight games and fallen back to .500 since its most impressive victory of the year, a home blowout of the defending champion Heat on Dec. 29. Hired prior to the 2008-09 season, the 48-year-old Skiles finishes his four-plus year tenure with the Bucks with an overall record of 162-182. Skiles led the Bucks to a 46-36 record and a trip to the playoffs in 2009-10, but he never could duplicate that success and never did reach the playoffs again. He was originally signed to a four-year contract, but the Bucks added a year after the playoff appearance. When news of the split broke late Monday night, Bucks point guard Brandon Jennings took to Twitter to voice his opinion of the departure of the only NBA coach he's ever played for. "Coach skiles love the way he Approached the game," Jennings tweeted. "Believed in me since I was a rookie, gave me the rock since day one. Thanks for everything." Milwaukee was Skiles' third coaching job in the NBA with prior stops coming in Phoenix and Chicago. Skiles was fired in the middle of his third year with the Suns and in the middle of his fifth year with the Bulls. When he was fired in 2008 by the Bulls, Boylan took over as interim coach as well, and led the team to a 24-32 record the rest of the way. In his 13 years as an NBA head coach, Skiles has a 443-433 record and has made the playoffs six times, advancing to the second round twice. Follow Andrew Gruman on Twitter.
