When Chris Paul was elected as the new president of NBA players union, many expected him to ease into his role slowly before making any big moves or public stances. Apparently that’s not going to be the case. Reports now suggest that Paul is taking his role very seriously and apparently is ready to take on the league in several areas. Paul has already reached out to fellow players and informed them of his upcoming agenda, which includes: fighting any league proposal for HGH testing, eliminating flopping fines and blocking any changes or additions to the league’s dress code. It’s pretty funny that a guy who happens to flop a lot is trying to challenge the league’s fines for flopping, but the headline grabber here is his desire to fight any league proposal for HGH testing. While the NFL players union is currently battling its league over HGH testing, pretty much everyone knows that testing will happen sooner or later. The issue is that fines for flopping and HGH testing are both extremely popular ideas with fans, and both issues are at the heart of the game’s integrity. The fact that Paul wants to come out swinging against both could turn him in to a villain of sorts in NBA circles. The players union and the NBA are never going to be in perfect sync on every issue, but Paul has to make sure the union picks its battles wisely. Fans want to see less flopping, and probably agree that guys should be fined for doing it repeatedly. Fans also want to know the players they watch and cheer for are clean. In baseball, the players union seems to have tipped towards supporting more testing to ensure the game is clean. That has made heroes out of players who have come out vigorously in favor of testing and a clean game. Paul and the NBA players union should take note and act accordingly. Fighting hard against testing could be a horrible public relations move. The post Report: Chris Paul wants to challenge NBA on flopping fines, HGH testing appeared first on Midwest Sports Fans.
