Report: Lakers, Nets Interested In Trading For Raptors’ Gary Trent Jr.

According to NBA insider Matt Moore of Action Network, the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets are interested in trading for Toronto Raptors swingman Gary Trent Jr.

The Raptors, after trading OG Anunoby and Pascal Siakam, are in rebuild mode and could look to move more veterans.

“They’re not done. Word is that everyone who isn’t Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett, or Jakob Poeltl is available. The Raptors want to reset their timeline in terms of the age of their players. Curiously, Poeltl is 28,” Moore wrote in his latest NBA trade rumors column. “Gary Trent Jr. is the name most frequently discussed, with the Lakers and Nets among the teams with interest.”

The Lakers are in 10th place in the Western Conference standings, while the Nets are in 11th place in the East. Los Angeles is expected to be very active at the trade deadline since the team has struggled mightily since winning the In-Season Tournament in Las Vegas.

Trent Jr. is averaging 11.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.1 blocks this season while shooting 42.1% from the field, 41.2% from beyond the arc and 65.1% from the free-throw line. He’s making $18.6 million. Trent Jr. becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer.

A Duke product, Trent Jr. has career averages of 14.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.2 blocks with the Portland Trail Blazers and Raptors. Since he’s a career 38.7% shooter from 3, Trent Jr. is expected to draw interest from multiple playoff teams.
