Just hours after the Nets reportedly landed Joe Johnson, it appears they've got their sights set on the ultimate prize this offseason: Dwight Howard.
The Nets and Magic are discussing a monster trade in which Brooklyn would send Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries, Marshon Brooks and first-round picks in 2013, 2015 and 2017 to Orlando in exchange for Howard, according to ESPN's Chris Broussard.
SI.com's Chris Mannix reports that the Nets would be willing to take back Hedo Turkoglu -- who is owed $11.4 million this season and has a player option for $12.2 million next season -- as part of the deal as well. Mannix reports that the Nets can afford such a deal because they're allowed to exceed the cap in order to re-sign Lopez and Humphries -- as a result of their bird rights -- before flipping them to the Magic.
This report comes on the heels of speculation over the past few days that Howard was looking to join the Nets, and that Brooklyn was the only potential destination where he would sign a long-term deal.

Two years ago, I'd have never thought it possible for a basketball player to emerge from a free-agency blunder looking worse than LeBron James did. This is when he went with his gut during an embarrassing national TV special and took advantage of his God-given right to do whatever he wanted to do.
But in bungling nearly every aspect of his inevitable divorce from the Orlando...

I hope Dwight Howard has acquired a new publicist/media image consultant. His entire impending free agency is a mess and I suspect it’s going to take a lot to get it back to a decent place. Firing back at reports that state Howard feels the Magic blackmailed him, Dwight is blaming the media and it’s [...]
In my almost 29 years of existing on this earth, no matter what the socioeconomic conditions may be, there’s always one guy in the crew who is just “that guy.” You see, “that guy” is the person that may or may not be a good dude, he may be extremely smart or as dumb as [...]

How is it that the two best centers in the NBA are also the biggest brats? More news out of Orlando about the chaos that was this past season. Dwight Howard and Jameer Nelson, as of today a free agent, almost came to blows last season. Apparently, Jameer wasn’t the only Magic teammate who had [...]
The Hawks and Nets swapped players for salary relief, both with their sights set on acquiring Dwight Howard in the frenzied first days of the offseason, writes Damon Hatheway.
