"Relax, Koby, I got this." - Dan Gilbert, very likely. David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

Everyone loves to joke that LeBron James runs the Cavs. But if you ask one rival executive, that’s not the case at all. In fact, this executive believes owner Dan Gilbert is calling the shots.

The word is out that Dan is running things. Frankly, that’s where he’s happiest and the role he’s most comfortable in.

But that means 35-year-old GM Koby Altman isn’t calling the shots. But does this really surprise us? First of all, he has never signed a GM to a second contract. Secondly, he would let David Griffin, who help put together a championship-winning roster, walk this summer. And lastly, Altman is relatively untested. It makes sense if Gilbert is running things. But it sure as heck isn’t reassuring.

On the season, the Cavs are 29-19 and 5.5 games out of first in the East. Meanwhile the Boston Celtics, where Kyrie Irving now plays, remain in first. And while they are just 1.5 games ahead of the Toronto Raptors, they are much better off than the Cavs. After all, they’ve also been without their big free agent signing in Gordon Hayward all season long. Imagine when he comes back healthy next year.

So if the Cavs do go down in flames, is Gilbert going to go down with the ship? Word is that he’s looking to sell the team as well.

Buckle up, Cavs’ fans.
