MINNEAPOLIS According to multiple reports, the Timberwolves have signed free agent forward Louis Amundson to a one-year deal. Reports from Yahoo! Sports and SI.com cited Amundson's agent, Mark Bartelstein, as confirming the signing. The Timberwolves' salary cap constraints currently permit them only to offer a veteran's minimum deal to any players they sign. Amundson first appeared in the NBA in 2007 with the Jazz and won the 2007 D-League Rookie of the Year Award with the Colorado 14ers. He played in college for UNLV and went undrafted in 2006. Since debuting with Utah, Amundson has played for the 76ers, Suns, Warriors and, most recently, Pacers. Last season in Indiana, he appeared in 60 games, starting none and averaging 3.5 points and 3.7 rebounds. Amundson's best season came in 2009-10 with Phoenix, when he finished averaging 4.7 points and 4.4 rebounds and shooting 55.1 percent from the field. The 6-foot-9, 225-pound big man will face stiff competition for minutes, with Kevin Love and Nikola Pekovic set to take on the majority of minutes at power forward and center, respectively. Greg Stiemsma will also be in the mix as a backup center. Before signing Amundson, the Timberwolves had 13 guaranteed contracts entering training camp, and they'd remained in talks with free agent forward Anthony Tolliver about returning. Signing Amundson will likely make Tolliver's situation more difficult; he's still waiting to sign as training camps loom within the week. Follow Joan Niesen on Twitter.
