Jason Richardson is apparently learning the value this week in paying it forward. Just days after buying iPads for some of his teammates, the Orlando Magic swingman recovered his 2000 Michigan State NCAA national championship ring, which he says had been missing for five years. According to a tweet sent out by Richardson Thursday morning, the 12-year-old diamond-encrusted ring, which features a large 1 in the middle, along with his name and number on the side, had been stolen and sold to a memorabilia shop five years ago. As a freshman in East Lansing, Richardson played 37 games and averaged 5.1 points and 4.1 rebounds for the Spartans, who finished that season 32-7 and topped the Florida Gators 89-76 at the national championship game in Indianapolis. Richardson scored nine points on 4-of-7 shooting in the championship tilt, helping to earn Michigan State its first national title since 1979. As a sophomore, Richardson played in 33 games and averaged a team-high 14.7 points to go with 5.9 rebounds a night. Richardson led Tom Izzos Spartans to a 28-5 record and their third straight Final Four appearance that year, but eventually fell to Arizona in the national semifinal. Richardson scored just six points on 2-of-11 shooting in his final collegiate game. He was selected fifth overall by the Warriors in the 2001 draft and later went on to play for the Bobcats and Suns before landing with the Magic in December 2010. It is unclear how Richardson was eventually reunited with the ring, though those who believe in karma might believe he had it coming. The rings return comes just days after Richardson purchased brand new iPads for some of his Magic teammates. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Richardson asked teammates on the team bus on the way to a March 8 game in Chicago whether they wanted one of the new iPads, which had been unveiled by Apple the day before. When players arrived at Amway Center for Mondays home matchup with the Bulls, those who had indicated that they wanted one found a new 64-gigabyte iPad in their locker. Magic guard Von Wafer sent a tweet acknowledging the new gift. "Why I love having great teammates," Wafer wrote. "come in the locker room free iPad in my locker today's gonna b a great day."
