The Indiana Pacers are riding their longest home win streak in 10 years as their NBA-leading defense gets ready for a test.
The Pacers look for their 11th straight home win as they try to hand the high-scoring Houston Rockets a sixth straight defeat Friday night.
Indiana (24-16) is enjoying its longest run at home since a 14-game streak Nov. 28, 2002-Jan. 26, 2003. The Pacers are allowing a league-low 89.1 points per game overall, and that figure is at 82.6 during this home streak.
Houston (21-19) enters on its longest slide since a six-game skid in April, but James Harden and company could pose problems. Harden is averaging 26.3 points for a Rockets club that is second in the league with 105.4 points per game.
Both teams had the day off Thursday after some difficult back-to-back sets of games.
Indiana split two sets in the past week, losing both of the second contests by 97-86 scores at Brooklyn on Sunday and at Orlando on Wednesday.
The Pacers did not want to blame the schedule after allowing the Magic to shoot 46.5 percent and hit 12 3-pointers - a season high for an Indiana opponent.
"I believe it is our fourth game in five nights so fatigue can play a factor," guard George Hill said. "There is no time for excuses and everybody in the NBA goes through them. You still have to come to battle every day. We will take this loss as a team and hold our heads high and get back to work on Friday."
Houston will begin its fifth straight set of back-to-back games after failing to pick up a win in the last two. The Rockets fell 105-100 at Dallas on Wednesday as Harden went 5 for 23 from the floor, although he scored 20 points.
"James played hard," coach Kevin McHale said. "He got to the line 12 times. He had some looks that he normally makes and missed some, but you're going to have nights like that."
The Pacers yield an average of 20.6 foul shots, among the lowest in the league, but Harden presents a challenge as he is among the league leaders with 9.9 attempts per game.
Houston got some sloppy play from its key perimeter players Wednesday as Harden, Jeremy Lin and Carlos Delfino combined for 13 of its 16 turnovers that led to 24 points.
"You've just got to make the easy play," Harden said. "We were trying to do a little too much, one extra dribble too much."
While Indiana excels defensively, it's the second-lowest scoring team in the NBA with 91.1 points per game.
No Pacers player has scored 30 in any of the last 27 games. The only team with a longer such drought is Washington, which has not had a player exceed 27 all season.
Indiana is the top rebounding team in the league at 46.4 per game and will faces Houston center Omer Asik, averaging 11.2 boards. The 7-footer has never started against the Pacers as he goes up against 7-2 center Roy Hibbert, who averages 2.7 blocks and 8.4 rebounds.

The Indiana Pacers take great pride in their defense, otherwise they would not be ranked 1st in the NBA with only 88.9 points allowed per game. It takes more than just a starting five to play great team defense, and Roy Hibbert wanted to remind the Pacers reserve players of that on Tuesday night by giving them an incentive late in the game.
With Indiana holding a comfortable lead...
Jeremy Lin was as good as any point guard in the NBA for a two-month stretch last season, and he entered this season with big hopes for the Houston Rockets. So far, his numbers are comparable to last year’s statistics, but very few fans would call Lin an All-Star at the moment.
Lin agrees with that assessment.
“Uh, no,” Lin said in response to a question about whether he feels...
There's a few ways to look at the Houston Rockets, who had lost five straight heading into their game with the Pacers. The first is that they are struggling and would be a perfect bounceback opponent for the Pacers after their dreadful loss against the Magic. The second is that the Rockets are desperate for a win and would be extremely dangerous.
I think the first theory...
INDIANAPOLIS -- If there's any doubt about Indiana Pacers swingman Paul George being named to the Eastern Conference All-Star team, it may be time to remove it. George, who has a good chance to be named an All-Star reserve next week, scored 31 points to lead the Pacers to a 105-95 victory over the Houston Rockets on Friday. The Pacers have won 11 straight games at home,...
The official scoreboard read 97-86, but this game was not close from midway through the second quarter. When the game began, it looked like it was going to be an easy night for the Pacers as the starters eased their way to a 15-8 lead. Enter the Pacers reserves and in a matter of minutes the Pacers were staring at a 17-point deficit. They never recovered.
This was a nightmarish...
Magic forward Glen “Big Baby” Davis is another one of those different type of cats we talk about from time to time. Davis is a bit excentric, but getting better as a ball player.
During the first quarter of last night’s victory over the Indiana Pacers, Davis did a good job of running the floor last night, and was rewarded for his hustle with a nice dish.
From there it got...
ORLANDO - The Indiana Pacers have built their surprising success this season on the ability to defend, and particularly on defending the 3-point shot. Their strategy was blown apart Wednesday night. The Orlando Magic torched the Pacers 97-86, using a flurry of 3-point shots to roll through the NBA's top-rated defensive team. The Magic hit a season high 12 3-pointers, the...

The Indiana Pacers had little trouble picking up their first road win of the new year last time out. A matchup with the Orlando Magic wouldn't appear to give them too much of a challenge either.
The Pacers will try to keep rolling Wednesday night when they visit the Magic, losers in 11 of 12 and a season-high six in a row at home.
DALLAS -- On the eve of the All-Star starters for each conference being announced, the Houston Rockets' backcourt hardly looked All-Star worthy in a 105-100 loss to the Dallas Mavericks Wednesday night at the American Airlines Center. Jeremy Lin missed 1 of 2 free throws in two critical trips to the free-throw line late in the game and then committed a turnover with 15 seconds...
