It's not uncommon for a person to have a fear of flying. A lot of people do actually. What is uncommon, however, is for a professional athlete to hold this type of fear.

Houston Rockets rookie Royce White cringes at the very thought of a jet place. He has battled an anxiety disorder for many years now, and it escalates when he's forced to enter a plane. His case is so severe that the former Iowa State Cyclone has yet to report to Houston's training camp. Instead, he's looking at the possibility of using his own bus to travel to road games.

"What it's going to look like is every game that's drivable," White told ESPN.com. "I'm going to get a bus for myself. And I'm going to make that bus feel like home so that there's a level of consistency in a job where inconsistency is very apparent because of the schedule."
The Rockets selected the 21-year old Royce in the first round (16th overall) of the 2012 NBA Draft.

He averaged just over 13 points and nearly 10 rebounds last season for Iowa State, so the talent is obviously there. The trick for the Rockets is going to be finding a way to get him to and from their away games.

You may recall another well-known sports figure who refuses to fly and opts for buses as well, John Madden. He eventually got to the point where he rode around in a luxury coach bus that costs nearly one million dollars.

High five to USA Today for the story.
