AUBURN HILLS -- At least Rodney Stuckey wasn't trying to save a pizza.
The Pistons guard will have surgery Friday after getting his right thumb caught in his car door Wednesday afternoon. Stuckey broke the bone at the tip of his thumb, and will be sidelined indefinitely.
Stuckey was battling Chauncey Billups for the starting shooting-guard spot, but now he will probably miss at least a few weeks of the regular season. That could mean more playing time for rookie Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, as well as Kyle Singler.
The Pistons are playing Miami in a preseason game Thursday night.
