Rudy Gay became a Toronto Raptor last week and you would be excused for thinking that he had been liberated from a Grizzly prison upon his departure from Memphis, if you listened to his comments this week on Toronto radio. That is right: the man formerly known as the highest paid man on the Grizz is now the highest paid Raptor -- but will he be the best performing Raptor? There are those who will argue that despite being the team's leading scorer (17.2ppg) in Memphis, Gay was but the third or even fourth most effective player on the roster behind the likes of Zach Randolph (15.7ppg, 11.7rpg), Marc Gasol (13.5ppg, 7.6rpg, 3.5apg, 1.7bpg, 1.0spg) and Mike Conley (13.2ppg, 5.8apg, 2.3spg). Now in his seventh season, Gay has had his worst scoring and shooting (40.8%) performance since his rookie season. Whether this was a product of his own poor form, or the situation he found himself in on the Grizzlies roster, it became apparent that a change was needed. 'I was excited ...

Video: Rudy Gay hits game-winner in overtime vs Indiana Pacers

Tweet   After six and a half seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies it’s going to take some time to get used to seeing Rudy Gay in a Toronto Raptors uniform. He’s gotten off to a pretty decent start with his new team, averaging 24 points, six boards, and over three steals through the first four [...]

Raptors 100, Pacers 98, OT

Rudy Gay scored 17 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter and overtime Friday night, rallying the Toronto Raptors to a 100-98 victory over the weary Indiana Pacers. The game went into overtime after Amir Johnson's buzzer-beating tip-in stood following a replay review. The Raptors won it when Gay hit a 17-foot jumper with 1.7 seconds left and Paul George's 15-footer rimmed...

Green Envy: What Raptors fans said - 2/6

After sifting through what the Raptors fans had to say while watching their team blow a 10 point 4th quarter lead tonight, I mostly just feel bad for them.  They clearly haven't had much of anything good to root for from this team, ever.  The recent acquisition of Rudy Gay seemed to have put some playoff dreams in their heads, which Boston apparently shattered this evening...

Warriors-Grizzlies Preview

The Memphis Grizzlies have struggled since dealing Rudy Gay. Perhaps surprisingly, though, his absence has seemingly taken a bigger toll on defense. The Grizzlies' defensive woes, however, pale in comparison to what the Golden State Warriors are experiencing. Both will try to avoid three-game losing streaks Friday night when they meet in Memphis. The Grizzlies (30-18) have...

Your morning dump…where Toronto is actually pretty good

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. “I’ve watched a couple highlights with (Gay) and (DeMar) DeRozan and they seem pretty explosive,” said Paul Pierce. “I’ve seen them put up some numbers… So when you add a talent like Rudy Gay to go along...

Celtics: better is than better does without Rondo

Keeping the Celtics as a contending team is a daunting prospect with all their injury concerns and the continual conversation of are they better without Rondo.  Last night's game provided the proof that this team is mediocre at best. The Toronto Raptors led by new leader, Rudy Gay gave a spirited effort and Boston played down to their expectations. It was very hard to tell...

Pacers throw away game, home winning streak vs Raptors

After such a stellar stretch, the Indiana Pacers were due for a letdown game, and boy did they throw it away against the Toronto Raptors, losing 100-98 in overtime and snapping their 15-game home winning streak. And full credit to the Raptors too, for never giving up and fighting through till the end despite getting some pretty dubious calls against them. What happened was this...
