Sam Young will probably not be the difference maker that the 76ers are in need of. He is, however, a nice pick up for the team and will add some much needed depth and scoring punch off of the bench now that Evan Turner is a starter.

Young was acquired before the NBA trade deadline from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for the rights to Ricky Sanchez. Sanchez is currently playing professional basketball in Puerto Rico.

Sam Young has average 6.9 points per game in his NBA career, to go along with 2.4 rebounds per game. He has averaged only 11 minutes per game this season for the Grizzlies while averaging 17 for his career. His drop off in minutes this season is more attributable to the Grizzlies being relatively healthy season than any drop off in performance.

Young told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he was excited to be coming to Philly to join a team that plays “hard-nosed basketball.”

Sam Young is a solid addition to the Sixers bench considering they gave up virtually nothing to get him. It was refreshing to hear someone coming to Philly and saying they were excited. Further proof that the 76ers are turning around their perception as basketball’s black hole around the league.
