San Antonio Spurs: Why These Spurs Will Win The West By Mike Elworth The San Antonio Spurs and the Memphis Grizzlies will start the Western Conference Finals on Sunday, which should be a hard fought slugfest. These are 2 of the 4 top defensive teams in the conference and 2 of the hardest playing teams in the NBA, so this series will be a very physical matchup, with the scoreboard most likely staying on the low side. Both teams are very capable of dominating a team on defense, but the Spurs have a major advantage on offense. The Grizzlies may have the top defense in the NBA and an elite big man duo, in Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol on offense, but other than that pair and Mike Conley, they do not have any true offensive threats on the roster, but their defense has bailed them out on many occasions throughout the year. The Spurs do not have this trouble, as they were not only the 11th ranked defense in the NBA (4th in the West), but the 4th highest scoring team as well, while the  Griz...

Prospect wouldn't give Spurs his phone number

An NBA Draft prospect reportedly would not give the Spurs his phone number. Find out why.

Video: Spurs fans give team a warm welcome at 5 AM

San Antonio Spurs fans are perhaps the best fans in the league. At the AT&T Center they are loud, vocal, and are dressed from head to toe in anything black and silver. And after the Spurs sent the Warriors packing for the summer after winning Game 6 in Oakland, the Spurs fans showed just how much they love their team. After landing in San Antonio, the Spurs were greeted by...

Report: Deshaun Thomas Refused To Give The San Antonio Spurs His Phone Number

OSU Former Ohio State Buckeye Deshaun Thomas is currently projected as a second round pick in most NBA mock drafts, but if he wants it to stay that way, he might want to start being a little more cooperative. Thomas reportedly refused to give the San Antonio Spurs his phone number this past week. From ohio.com: But the most interesting, he said, was the fact the Spurs’ first...

Spurs take game 1 versus Grizzlies

The game wasn’t close, but we’ve seen Memphis come back repeatedly after Game 1 losses, so we won’t make too much of this game. The question will be whether a young team like the Grizzlies can rise to the occasion in the conference finals against a veteran team like the Spurs. I Like the Spurs in this series, but game 1 outcomes can be deceiving. The Spurs have to hold the...

CC video of the day: Tony Parker shreds Grizzlies' defense in Game 1

Heading into the postseason, Memphis was tops in the league in defense holding teams to 89.3 points during the regular season. In the playoffs, the Grizzlies are holding teams to 92.4 points but in Game 1 of the West Finals, Spurs' Tony Parker made short-work of the vaunted Memphis defense. Parker scored almost at will during Game 1, finishing with 20 points, 9 assists, and...

Coach Popovich, Parker, Ginobili discuss Grizzlies before Conference Finals

It’s 2013. The San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies are about to face off in another playoff series after the Grizzlies defeated the Spurs two years ago in the first round. Unlike 2011, Manu Ginobili is healthy, Tiago Splitter is a key player, Kawhi Leonard is a Spur, Boris Diaw is a Spur, and Richard Jefferson is already on vacation. The Grizzlies too have new faces with...

The San Antonio Spurs (8-2) and Memphis Grizzlies (8-3) will kick off the Western Conference Finals today in San Antonio in a clash of West powerhouses. The last time these two teams faced off in the postseason, the Grizzlies upset the No. 1 seeded Spurs in the 2011 NBA Playoffs first-round.  The Spurs are coming off a 94-82 win over the Warriors in Game 6 in Oakland to win...

Grizzlies - Spurs Game One: Team, Not Star

12 Inches Of Elevation On one hand, you can safely disregard any Game One loss for the Grizz, since they do that sort of thing all the time, and all you have to do when you start on the road is get a split. But on the other, the way in which the Spurs won this game was new and unique, and reminds us, yet again, that every series is different. In Game One, that difference was Matt...

NBA Prospect Deshaun Thomas Refuses to Give Teams His Cell Phone Number

He’s advisers should all be fired now. If he doesn’t have advisers, he should hire some. When you are a fringe 1st round, likely 2nd round NBA draft prospect and the San Antonio Spurs ask you for your cell phone number, you give it to them, you don’t say this. Thomas said teams asked him plenty of difficult and interesting questions during his interview process at the combine...

Western Conference Finals Preview: #2 Spurs vs #5 Grizzlies

If you like old school, bruising basketball, then this Memphis/San Antonio series was made for you. These two teams are extremely similar. They both have very good point guards, wing players that know their roles, and big men that can dominate the game. This series comes down to two things: 1. Can Memphis keep Tony Parker out of the lane? 2: Can San Antonio matchup with Gasol and...

Two Categories the Spurs need to succeed in to defeat Grizzlies

Series Preview: San Antonio Spurs (1) vs Memphis Grizzlies

Rematch of the 2011 playoffs! Well, not really. The San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies met in the first round of the 2011 NBA playoffs.  The Grizzlies being the 8th seed ended up beating the number one seed Spurs in six games.  These teams are nothing like their 2011 rosters.  Memphis leaned more offense with Rudy Gay and OJ Mayo.  The 2013 team has ...

On the best playoff run in their short history, the Memphis Grizzlies refuse to be satisfied with just reaching their first Western Conference final. The San Antonio Spurs?
