Williams, Felton, May and McCants (Draft Night)
Another bad break for Sean May, who after signing with the New Jersey Nets on August 9 now finds himself a free agent once again as the franchise has requested waivers on him. May, who won a national title with North Carolina, is a four year veteran of the league and has averaged 6.9 points and 4.0 rebounds during that time (119 games in all, most with the Charlotte Bobcats and the last part with the Sacramento Kings). The teams’ GM, Billy King, had this to say about why the team was letting go of the 6′9/266 lbs. power forward:
“During a basketball workout last week, in preparation for the upcoming training camp and season, Sean May suffered a stress fracture to his left foot,” said King . “This injury has a four-eight week rehab period, which would not provide Sean a legitimate chance to make our team.”
This has to be a pretty hard blow to May, who has been fighting hard to stay in shape and avoid injuries, something that has bugged him for most of his career. As I do with all the Tar Heels let me be the first to wish the young man all the best has he tries to find another team to take him in, but, if what Billy King says is true, and he has to sit out up to eight weeks I believe we will see May overseas this season.
