This time last season, the NBA champion Dallas Mavericks, along with the rest of the NBA, waited to see if they were going to play a season or be lockout without a job. Now, Dallas' entire structure has changed. First, the goal was to acquire point guard Deron Williams by letting Tyson Chandler go, and sacrifice a chance for another title. In the end, Williams went back to Brooklyn, and Dallas was caught without Williams and Jason Kidd, who opted to leave Dallas for New York. Both Marc Cuban and Donnie Nelson found themselves left at the alter, and with Howard off to Los Angeles, the Mavericks needed to find alternatives fast. NBA Preview: Mavs as weighty as ever

You can probably go ahead and forget about the Dallas Mavericks. They are not, after all, the same team that won the NBA title two seasons ago. But wait. Dirk Nowitzki is still there. The Mavericks were without star forward Dirk Nowitzki and center Chris Kaman, who both stayed home to recover from injuries. Rookie Jae Crowder scored 15 for Dallas, and Vince Carter had 13. Hawks...
