One of the knocks on the Los Angeles Lakers entering this season was their lack of a solid point guard.

Derek Fisher wasn't going to cut it anymore due to his age and is now with the Thunder after a trade. Steve Blake wasn't what the Lakers wanted in a point guard, and of course we all know what happened to that potential deal to acquire Chris Paul.

In the end, the Lakers brought in Ramon Sessions and so far he has been fitting in seamlessly. This season, he is averaging 13.1 points and 7.1 assists per game and is now a starting point guard for one of the NBA's most storied franchise.

But if one thinks his return to LA next season is a done deal, think again.

Although Sessions says he wholeheartedly wants to return to the Lakers, he is seeking some long-term stability and wants a multiyear deal. According to the latimes.com, Sessions is to decline his player option for $4.6 million next season and become an unrestricted free agent.

A return to the Lakers would seem logical if the sides worked out a multiyear deal.

"These fans really believe in me in this place and they really know basketball. They've seen the greatest of greats come through here," he said. "It's unreal. In my whole career, it's never been like this, being noticed. You're on ESPN every night or TNT. You're with Kobe Bryant out there in the backcourt.

"I want to be here. I don't know what that means or how that's going to happen. It ain't no secret. I'll tell anybody that. I tell [Lakers General Manager] Mitch Kupchak. I tell my agent. I want to be here. Period. For a long time."

With Sessions doing a fine job with LA this season, the Lakers more than likely will offer him a multiyear deal and rightfully so. Having to lead the floor for LA, be a part of a transition period for the Lakers with a new head coach, and having to guide this team into the playoffs has not been an easy task.

Also, with his play this season, there is no doubt other teams may take a crack at luring him as a free agent. Something the Lakers won't let happen.
