Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, wife Hailey Summers announce birth of son, Ares Alexander

Gilgeous-Alexander and Summers got married on Valentine’s Day and began dating in 2016. Summers is a former University of Albany soccer player, and Gilgeous-Alexander played at the University of Kentucky before heading to the NBA in 2018.

2024 has been a very good year for Gilgeous-Alexander. Along with getting married and having a new baby, the 25-year-old is having an MVP type season. Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 30.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game in regular season game this year and was selected to his second consecutive All-Star game. ESPN has the former Kentucky star as one of the five favorites to win the NBA MVP award.

In March, Gilgeous-Alexander spoke to Complex about the chance of winning the MVP award. “It would be a dream come true,” he said. “It’s something that you dream about as a kid. You shoot hoops in your backyard and imagine that you’re MVP to the crowds, chanting your name. It’s surreal to even just be in the conversation. I would obviously be ecstatic and love to win the award. It’s something that I definitely want.”

Gilgeous-Alexander was asked about being the best Canadian to every played basketball. “To answer your question, yes but I always felt like this is what I’ve been taught,” he explained. “Like I can achieve anything I put my mind to and anything I work for. I’ve made it to the NBA and made it this far in achieving this amount of things. And if you asked everyone in my life and everyone that I’ve been around 10 years ago if I could achieve it, they’d say I was crazy. So I try not to put a cap on what I can do and a limit on what I can do and I try to reach for the stars.”
