Free agent forward Shane Battier reportedly has a list of seven teams that he's considering signing with and the Boston Celtics have made the cut. (SI.com)

Battier's list still includes the Heat, Spurs, Pacers, Raptors, Grizzlies, Celtics and his former Memphis team. The Thunder have also had discussions with either Battier or his camp. The team-to-player conversations might matter more with players like these than with so many others, as a clear understanding of roles, goals and, of course, financial incentive will come into play.

Battier is the perfect player for this system. A defensive-minded, smart veteran who can provide a scoring punch and is a threat from the outside. Dare I say, a James Posey type of player. The question is whether or not Battier would take the $3 million abbreviated mid-level exception and an opportunity to help the Celtics win one more title with this current group or take more money somewhere else. Miami, San Antonio and maybe even Memphis probably have better chances at winning the title than the Celtics—as they are currently constructed—do. That whole come-to-Boston-and-have-a-shot-at-a-title argument just doesn't carry the same weight that it used to.
