Sunday’s 106-94 victory over the faltering New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden marked the third win in a row for the suddenly resurgent 76ers.

Lou Williams came off bench to score 28. Evan Turner posted yet another double-double, finishing with 25 points. Oh, yeah. The guy that Doug Collins says is his team’s best rebounder pulled down a career-high 15.

The Sixers (25-17) don’t play again until Wednesday when they play at Indiana.

But just as noteworthy as the victory is the continuing downward spiral that the Knicks’ season is rapidly becoming.

They have gone from Linsation to flat-out lousy in no time flat. The Sixers took away the Knicks’ will to compete in the third quarter when they outscored them 38-24. Having seen enough, Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni benched New York’s purported superstars Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire.

But D’Antoni’s benching of his best players didn’t necessarily pull the bright lights of Broadway off of him. The loss was their fifth in a row, they haven’t won a game this month, and considering that their next game is at Chicago no one will be surprised to see them drop their sixth straight.

Knicks have yet to win a game this month and they probably won’t win their next, either. Knicks fans appear tired of him as well and, as a result, at one point near the end, he was showered with the chant, ‘fire D’Antoni.”

Might not be a bad idea at the end of the season.
