Knicks 114 Magic 106 Boxscore   Sloppy, sluggish Knicks came back to straighten up and fly right to get a solid win 114-106.  Carmelo Anthony put the team on his back in the 4th period with a total of 40 points for the entire game. This win gives the Knicks 2 in a row and ties them for 1st in the entire Eastern Conference. They now have a record of 23-10 and lead the Atlantic by 5 games. Next up is the Boston Celtics on Monday night at MSG.   Things That Look Good: -“Caring is Sharing” is the motto. The more you share the ball and move it around the court good things happen. -2nd quarter defensive pressure was the reason why the Knicks got back into it. When you play pressure D and steal the ball you can get out and run and this allows you to get easy baskets. -JR Smith has been playing at an All-Star level with 18 pts and 6 rbs. -Playing harder and smarter gets you wins. -Camby’s passing ability and his lobs are uncanny. Added element Knicks have never had. -Carmelo Anthony took over the game in the second half, as the Knicks needed some scoring to get them over the hump. -Knicks clamped down on the defense in the 4th allowing only 17 points while scoring 33. This was the tipping point for the game.   Things That Need to Improve: -A Knicks slow start is not winning basketball. You cannot continue to do so if you want to win a championship. Some of the reason they start slow is due to Jason Kidd’s inability to push the ball and this causes the offense to be very stagnant. -Amar’e’s on the ball defense is decent, but his help defense is horrible as well as finding his man and keeping him within reach. If he wants to be in the game in the 4th he needs to figure it out soon. -Orlando’s back-court torched the Knicks tonight with a total of 58 points. The Knicks need to figure out what they can do to stop other teams penetration without the services of Raymond Felton for another month. -106 points is way too much for a contending team to give up. The Knicks surrendered 36 and 34 points in the 1st and 3rd.   Middle Ground: -Amar’e shakes the rust again chipping in with 11 pts and 4 rbs on 17 min. -Kidd had a throw back game with 15 pts 8 rbs and 7 asts. -Melo erupts and takes over like only Melo knows how to. He dominated with 40 pts 6 rbs and 6 asts. -Iman Shumpert is about 2-3 weeks away and his addition will be another positive step for the Knicks back-court. He allows the Knicks to play aggressive defense and hopefully will keep his man in font of him. This will allow J-Kidd and Pablo to get some rest to stay fresh. -Tyson Chandler brought his “A” game tonight as usual, but sometimes it looks like Tyson avoids foul trouble and let’s players get to the rim with ease. This only happens sometimes so to complain about it is not necessary. Just keep and eye on it.   Peter A.
