Spurs Claim Julian Champagnie Off Waivers
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Spurs have claimed small forward Julian Champagnie off waivers, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Champagnie, 21, is 6-foot-8 and was waived by the 76ers earlier this week after they signed guard Mac McClung to a two-way contract. Champagnie then had 48 hours to clear waivers before entering free agency — but apparently the Spurs will take him before that.

He appeared in two games this season as a rookie two-way player.

Undrafted out of St. John’s last summer, Champagnie signed with Philadelphia on July 2. He spent most of his time with the Delaware Blue Coats of the G League and will likely now spend time with the Austin Spurs.

Champagnie is the twin brother of forward Justin Champagnie of the G League’s Sioux Falls Skyforce. Their father, Ranford Champagnie, played soccer at St. John’s and was a member of the 1996 championship team.
