Found August 30, 2012 on Project Spurs:

Heading into the 2012 Olympics, the French National team was considered one of the better teams in the field. With players like Tony Parker, Nicolas Batum, Ronny Turiaf, Nando De Colo, and more on the roster, France was seen as a challenge to the top-tier teams.

However, France was beset with an injury to Joakim Noah, and Rodrigue Beaubois and Ian Mahinmi not suiting up, France's chances to medal were lessened and in the end, the team finished sixth in the tournament after losing to Spain, 66-59.

But the loss is still weighing on San Antonio Spurs' Boris Diaw who says (via French site L'equipe) the loss still hurts.

"In previous years, we had lost because they (the Spaniards) were better. Here we lost because we did not have luck on the end (...) At the Euro final, there was no killer instinct. Here we had [that killer instinct]," he said.

Team France and Diaw should be looking forward to the Rio Games in 2016. France should  have a complete team with Noah, Diaw, Parker, and the rest of the squad coming back for another run at a medal. However, France should be wary that in Rio, it might be the last shot that team is together. Parker has mentioned the 2016 Games might be his last time playing at the Olympics, and Diaw, Noah, Turiaf, and other will be 4-years older. Add the fact Argentina won't be as strong as in years past, Diaw and Team France will definitely have a good shot at capturing a medal in Rio.

Manu Ginobili shows off hidden talents

Let's review: San Antonio Spurs' Manu Ginobili has won three NBA titles, Olympic medals, is considered one of the best guards in the league, and is a lock for the Basketball Hall of Fame. So what more can he do to impress? How about painter? OK so maybe he isn't the next Rembrandt or Picasso but Ginobili recently put the finishing touches on his self-portrait for UNICEF...

Spurs Brasil interviews Marcus Denmon

The San Antonio Spurs must have a lot of faith in Marcus Denmon since they drafted him onto a team that’s already saturated with guards. Denmon certainly is talented, but he’s not ready for the big leagues just yet. The Spurs sent him off to France to play for Elan Chalon. They’ll be keeping a close eye on the guard from Missouri as he grows and matures overseas. Recently...

Coach Pop gushes over Kawhi Leonard, Tony Parker & more

Any reporter that’s been in a press conference with San Antonio Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich is always a little scared that their question is going to get thrown back in their face and they’ll be the laughingstock of the day (even if it’s a legitimate question). So sometimes it’s best to just ask Pop questions through email. Pop took some time to answer some mail from...

Gregg Popovich: Kwahi Leonard will be the face of the San Antonio Spurs

Gregg Popovich is arguably the best coach in the NBA, along with being a personal favorite of mine, and his coaching ability with the San Antonio Spurs is simply amazing. Although, Tim Duncan is at an advanced aged, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili are aging as well, but the Spurs are a playoff fixture. [...]

Video: Nando De Colo puts on a show at LNB All-Star Game

The doldrums of the NBA offseason is in full swing and many San Antonio Spurs fans are chomping at the bit to see their favorite team back on the court and chasing title number five. San Antonio hasn't done much as far as adding new faces to the team except for signing French guard Nando De Colo who they drafted in 2009.  Spurs fans have been weighing in on De Colo...

Lorbek: Choosing FC Barcelona over Spurs was easy

The San Antonio Spurs need size. Aside from Tim Duncan and Tiago Splitter, the team doesn't have much to contend with the likes of big teams like the Lakers, Grizzlies and Thunder. So far during the offseason, the Spurs seemed to have stocked up on guards but not much as far as help in the frontcourt - much to the chagrin of Spurs fans. However, once the offseason...

Cory Joseph participated in Team Canada camp

It appears San Antonio Spurs guard Cory Joseph got some extra court time in recently after impressing at the 2012 Summer League earlier this summer. Joseph along with a few of his Canadian national team teammates, including Tristan Thompson and Joel Anthony, participated in a Canada basketball camp after Steve Nash announced former Raptors coach Jay Triano would return to...

Parker: Career highlights include France, not Spurs

While an Olympic gold medal has been elusive to San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker, he's got plenty on his resume to be proud of, including multiple NBA championships, a NBA Finals MVP and being chosen as an all-star among others. But when respectmag.com asked him (via Google translate) to list his career highlights, the Spurs were nowhere to be found. Our defeat...

New York nightclub fights back against Parker's lawsuit

The New York City nightclub where the Spurs’ Tony Parker got his eye cut during a fight between rappers Chris Brown and Drake isn’t just going to take Parker’s $20 million lawsuit lying down. Lawyers for W.i.P. nightclub say that the fight between Drake and Brown was an “unforeseen and unexpected incident” and they shouldn’t be held responsible if two guys want...

Among the things we talked about: • My knowledge (or lack of) Star Wars. • James Anderson invited to Hawks vet camp • The Spurs latest invites to their...

Spurs to workout former Bobcat Derrick Brown

Another former Charlotte Bobcat could be on his way to joining Boris Diaw in San Antonio Spurs training camp. Unfortunately for Spurs fans and a majority of the Project Spurs staff, that player is not Tyrus Thomas. Instead, the Spurs are scheduled to be working out Bobcats 2009 second round pick and small forward Derrick Brown, according to csnnw.com. According to...

For $850,000 you can own one of Spurs' Parker's homes

If you got $850,000 laying around, you can buy one of San Antonio Spurs' Tony Parker's homes. Now don't fret Spurs fans, he isn't leaving the team but seeing how this was the same house he and ex-wife Eva Longoria stayed in while his current home was being built, there isn't much use for TP anymore. Not to mention a good way for him to rid himself of the...

Report: Forward Tyler Wilkerson gets invite to Spurs veteran camp

Forward Tyler Wilkerson had a solid performance at the 2012 NBA Summer League for the San Antonio Spurs averaging 9.3 points, and 5.0 rebounds and it seems he caught the eyes of the Spurs coaching staff. Wilkerson has turned down an offer to play for Spain of the ACB league and will take part in the Spurs veteran camp where he hopes to impress and land a spot on the bench...

Spurs To Bring In Brian Butch, Warren Carter For Workouts

The Spurs will bring in Brian Butch and Warren Carter next week for a workout.

Video: Spurs' Cory Joseph, Team Canada doing some team bonding

The Olympics may be done but that hasn't stopped San Antonio Spurs guard Cory Joseph and Team Canada from preparing to qualify for the 2016 Rio Games. And with Steve Nash leading the charge for Canada by setting up a summer training camp to build team unity, the Canadians have a good shot at chasing an Olympic medal in four years. Aside from Joseph, other NBA players...
