Spurs guard Manu Ginobili is back in the starting lineup for Game 5 against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night. Ginobili replaces Danny Green, who is shooting just 8 of 28 in the Western Conference finals. It's the first start for Ginobili since March 23 and just his eighth all season. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich wouldn't discuss any lineup changes before the game. But the move is a big shake-up for the Spurs after they dropped Games 3 and 4 in Oklahoma City following a 20-game winning streak. Ginobili is averaging 13.1 points in the playoffs.

The best of Gregg Popovich

During his career, San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has provided us with many classic moments. The fine folks over at Turner Sports decided to put together a compilation of his best sound bytes during his time in the league and if we learned anything from this five-minute clip, coach Pop can dole out some memorable lines:

Despite Ginobili's heroics, Thunder take series lead 3-2

"I thought we spotted them 24 minutes," San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said after Game 5. "I don't think we competed very well in the first half and they competed for 48." A few choice words were all it took for Popovich to sum up a disappointing home loss in what could've been the most important game in this Western Conference Finals series....

Sorry, critics: Spurs losses mean little

The somewhat popular notion that the truth of my recent Heat-Spurs, dysfunctional-childhood-upbringing column can be determined on a game-to-game basis speaks to the level of delusion pervasive throughout America. If the Spurs lose to Oklahoma City and never qualify for the playoffs again during the Tim Duncan era and the Heat go on to win the next 15 NBA titles, it would in no...

Sean Marks' new role with the Spurs

Sean Marks may have retired from playing, but he hasn't retired from basketball.  The former Spur and member of the 2005 championship team has taken a position with the San Antonio Spurs front office and is loving every minute of it.  A website from his native New Zealand recently spoke with him about it: "They've given me projects to work on, and I've been able...

Jackson: 'If you're scared, go to church'

After the San Antonio Spurs went up 2-0 on the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Spurs looked like they would be making an early trip to the NBA Finals and a shot at title number five. However, once the Western Conference Finals series shifted to OKC, it became a whole new series. OKC took care of their home court and won both games at home and the series is now tied at 2-2. In Game 3...

Gregg Popovich gives shortest in-game interview ever (Video)

After taking a 2-0 series lead, San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has seen his team lose three straight games to the Oklahoma City Thunder. As you may figure, coach Popovich wasn't exactly pleased with his team's play and when doing in-game interview with TNT's Craig Sager last night, he did it in record fashion by only saying four words:

Popovich gives shortest in-game interview ever

The in-game interview is a useful exercise... in theory. An intrepid sideline reporter gets a chance to ask a coach a few hard-hitting questions about the game as it unfolds. In sports like hockey, basketball, baseball, and soccer, these interviews offer a rare look at a coach's thought process during a game... in theory. Most of the time, these interviews offer nothing more...

No need for panic in San Antonio, WCF still Spurs series to win

The San Antonio Spurs still have home court advantage in the Western Conference Finals. That is important to remember as the series shifts back to Texas for tonight's pivotal Game Five. For as good as the Oklahoma City Thunder have played to even out this series during the last two games, they have not won over by the Riverwalk yet -- something the Thunder must do to win this...

Kevin Durant steps up

Kevin Durant leads Oklahoma City to a 2-2 tie with the Spurs in the Western Conference Finals. Durant is treating the postseason like an extension of his barnstorming tour last summer, when he lit up playgrounds from Harlem to L.A. In the first round of the playoffs, he beat the Mavericks with a game-winner. In the second round, he beat the Lakers with two. And in Game 4 of the...

Thunder defeat Spurs on road, take 3-2 lead

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Kevin Durant scored 27 points and the Oklahoma City Thunder are on the brink of the NBA Finals, beating the San Antonio Spurs 108-103 in Game 5 on Monday night and moving within a victory of a series knockout. Russell Westbrook added 23 and the Thunder took a 3-2 lead in a wildly entertaining Western Conference finals. Looking invincible while carrying 20-win...

Scouting WCF Game 5: Parker needed more than ever for Spurs

Before beginning the scouting report of game five of the Western Conference Finals between the San Antonio Spurs (2-2) and the Oklahoma City Thunder (2-2), I watched a quick video before gathering my data. The video I watched was produced by the NBA and posted on Project Spurs by our own Jeff Garcia. The video is a quick summary of the Spurs’ 20-game winning streak that featured...

Game 5 Spurs vs. Thunder: What went right, what went wrong

The San Antonio Spurs still sit at ten down, six to go, just like they were three games ago.  Only now the Spurs don't give a crap about the six the go and just care about getting one game.  After winning twenty straight, they've now lost three in a row for the first time this season, obviously at the worst possible time. Thanks to James Harden, last night's game was...

Thunder-Spurs Preview

In the span of three days, the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the San Antonio Spurs as many times as they had in the last three years. And now the Western Conference finals are suddenly up for grabs. What once seemed like the continuation of one of the most dominant runs in NBA history has turned into a genuine toss-up of a series after the Thunder stopped San Antonio's perfect...

Kevin Durant & Russell Westbrook’s game 4 post game fashion

At this point, we’re expecting Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant to step to the podium in some eye catching outfit that we’ll be discussing… until the next game. With the series all tied up 2-2, let’s look at today’s Style war features KD and Russ vs. Manu Ginobili. Whenever I see Manu in post game, [...]
