DENVER (AP) -- Danilo Gallinari scored a season-high 28 points, outlasting Tim Duncan down the stretch and leading the Denver Nuggets over the San Antonio Spurs 112-106 on Tuesday night.
Duncan had 31 points -- also a season best -- to go along with 18 rebounds for the Spurs, who closed a 15-point lead to three with 3:38 left before the Nuggets closed it out for their third straight win.
Manu Ginobili scored 16 points for the Spurs, who have lost four of their last five.
San Antonio trailed 98-83 before charging back. Patty Mills hit two 3-pointers, Duncan scored eight points and Tony Parker hit a 3 to pull the Spurs to 105-102.
Gallinari responded with a 3-pointer from the wing and Andre Miller hit a floater to stretch the lead to 110-102 a minute later.
Two free throws by Duncan and a basket by Ginobili made it 110-106 with 53 seconds left. A turnover by Denver gave the Spurs a chance to get closer but they missed three straight 3-pointers in the final 24 seconds.
Kenneth Faried had 19 points and 11 rebounds for Denver.
The Spurs trailed 82-69 late in the third quarter when they started fouling JaVale McGee to put him on the line. The strategy appeared to pay off when McGee made just 2 of 8 free throws but San Antonio missed five shots and Denver was able to take a 90-75 lead into the fourth.
Faried opened the second half with a three-point play, Gallinari drained a long 3-pointer and Lawson hit a 16-footer to put Denver up 63-50. The lead grew to 17 on a steal and layup by Ty Lawson midway through the third.
The Nuggets used an 11-4 run to close out the first half and take a 55-48 lead at the break. Gallinari had 11 points and Faried and Corey Brewer had 10 each to pace Denver in the first half.
The Nuggets could have enjoyed a bigger lead but 10 turnovers led to 10 points for San Antonio. The Spurs were also 6 for 12 from 3-point range in the first half.
Duncan led the Spurs with 13 points and was a rebound shy of having a double-double in the first half.
NOTES: Duncan also tied a season high with six assists. ... The Spurs and Nuggets have played a combined 35 road games and 18 home games so far this season. ... Duncan's double-double was his 14th of the season. ... Nuggets F Anthony Randolph was inactive with a sinus infection.
BEST OF MAXIM
I’ve been too many games at the Pepsi Center to see the tenacious San Antonio Spurs defeat the Denver Nuggets, and although the Nuggets had the benefit of having fresh legs, nothing should be put past the Spurs in the regular season. Luckily, Danilo Gallinari had a spectacular night — maybe not efficient — but [...]The post Danilo Gallinari, Denver Nuggets “Rips” San Antonio’s...
Professional basketball requires a great deal of exertion and physical stamina. And sometimes, the rigors of the sport are too much for any one human being to handle. This was the case for Denver Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried during the fourth quarter of Tuesday night's 112-106 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. Watch as his regurgitation episode sends teammates Ty Lawson and...
THINGS TO DO IN DENVER...
Ah, nothing like having the flu. I ain't mad at you Kenneth, this was me last week, minus sitting on the bench during a timeout at work but I had the flu. Ty Lawson was also sick as apparently the Denver Nuggets are very close as a team, they even share their own drinks. This is my only logical explanation to having multiple players with the flu on the team. Or maybe none...
31 points, 18 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 blocks, 2 steals, 9-of-10 free throws, and just 2 turnovers in 40 minutes of play.
The above numbers were produced by San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan on Wednesday in the Spurs’ 112-106 loss to the Denver Nuggets, just a day after the Spurs fell to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The first, second, and fourth quarters were all competitive...
San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has gotten the reputation from Spurs fans that he doesn't usually play rookies, especially with a veteran team around them. This year is different and this player isn't exactly a rookie either since he's played professional basketball overseas.
Nando De Colo has been described as "Manu Ginobili Jr." by some...
The Denver Nuggets beat up on the San Antonio Spurs last night 112-106. Kenneth Faried had a solid game dropping 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Faried balled for 29 minutes last night and in the 4th quarter he couldn't take any more. During a time out with 9:07 left in the game he puked in a towel on the team bench. That sent teammates Ty Lawson and Kosta Koufos...
Tony Parker was asked after the Spurs-Celtics game if there is a rivalry building between the Thunder and the Spurs; he replied that it’s not on the same level of the rivalries with the Los Angeles Lakers or Dallas Mavericks of past years. The road seems to be taking its toll on the San Antonio Spurs.
The Denver Nuggets are trying to prevent that from happening to them.
The Spurs will try to snap a three-game road losing streak Tuesday night when the Nuggets look to build on their best offensive performance of the season.
San Antonio (19-7) opened 11-2 on the road, but the team has dropped its last three away from...
The days when the San Antonio Spurs had one dimensional players besides the "Big 3" of Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, and Manu Ginobili are gone.
The Spurs no longer rely on a simple pick and roll along with a Tim Duncan "4 Down" like they used to in a predictable offense. Now the Spurs have a whole team full of versatile players who can dribble, drive, kick the...
San Antonio Spurs' Tony Parker has a packed NBA resume full of accolades. From being an NBA All-Star, a candidate for the NBA MVP, and NBA champion to winning the 2007 NBA Finals MVP, Parker's trophy case is quite full.
Well Parker might want to create some space on that shelf.
TP has been nominated for FIBA’s European Player of the Year in 2012.

San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili returned from his quad injury last night against the Denver Nuggets, finishing with a strong performance of 16 points, six assists, six rebounds and two steals in a losing effort, but it's clear the all-star guard has a ways to go before he's back to 100 percent.
In an interview on elpatagonico.net, Ginobili, who has suffered his...
Heading into the third quarter on Monday, the San Antonio Spurs were only trailing the Oklahoma City Thunder by five points. However 12 minutes of basketball can make a huge impact as the Spurs ended up going into the fourth quarter down 18 points.
The Thunder used an instrumental defensive third quarter to put the clamps on the Spurs as they held the Spurs to making 6-of-18...
In case you haven’t noticed, Kevin Durant is ridiculously good. His offense has always been there, but the rest of his game is what is beginning to really impress people. We just showed you his chase down block on James Anderson of the Spurs, so of course, he decided to follow it up with another impressive defensive display.
If you still have some doubts about Durant’s ability...
The matchup of the game when Oklahoma City Thunder play host to the San Antonio Spurs is between Tony Parker and Russell Westbrook.
In their last meeting, both players had great games with 14 points and 11 assists from Parker and 18 points, 5 assists, and 8 rebounds from Westbrook.
San Antonio will likely be without guard Manu Ginobili (quad contusion) and that will have...
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Two weeks after being called out by San Antonio's Stephen Jackson, Serge Ibaka got his payback. The Oklahoma City forward bullied the Spurs as he led the Thunder to a 107-93 victory Monday at Chesapeake Energy Arena. Ibaka led all scorers with 25 points on 10-for-16 shooting. He also racked up 17 rebounds and three blocked shots as Oklahoma City earned its...
