One of the things to look at during a rebuild is opportunity
created by injury. I suspect this will
be a steady pastime for Ainge during this season. If you aren’t expecting this to be a
contending year, then an injured player who may miss most or all of the season
may not hurt your team nearly as much as one with Championship aspirations.
It may not be too early to seek such a situation. Golden
State has only five guards
(two deep at SG and one was signed as an undrafted free agent). They also have Festus Ezeli who underwent
surgery in June and is expected to be out 6-9 months. If he isn’t available until March and has not
played all that time, he isn’t likely to be a major contributor for the
Warriors who fancy themselves a contender this year.
Marshon Brooks straight up for Ezeli works under the
Cap. Ezeli and Draymond Green (who
probably won’t see the court as he’s behind Igoudala and Harrison Barnes) for
Jordan Crawford also works. Either deal
keeps the C’s under the Luxury Cap.
Wouldn’t you rather have a big
man for next year rather than a fifth SG this year?[Discuss on CG Forums!]
