What is it with so many live on air interviews, or telecast forgetting to cut the microphone during a break. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith was just a victim of such microphone malfunction, and it surprisingly hasn’t cause much of a stir at all. According to Deadspin, Smith was in the process of interviewing Dwight Howard moments after his introductory press conference to begin life with the Houston Rockets. At some point, a YouTube user was able to tap into the satellite feed, and record the whole taping of the interview.  During a down moment of the taping, Smith and Howard start to engage in small talk. During that small talk, Stephen A. Smith indicated to Howard and whomever was listening, that Knicks owner James Dolan wanted to trade up and coming guard Iman Shumpert, because Shumpert didn’t want to participate in the summer league play. “And by the way, [James] Dolan was ready to trade [Shumpert] because he didn’t want to work out in the summer league. Dolan’s talking about trading him. I said, “trade who? You better hold on to that boy. You better not lose Iman Shumpert.’ That boy can play.” Howard as only he can, replied to Smith, “he can come here.” Now again this can only be gossip, because, Smith himself didn’t run with this, nor did he try to break the story, If it’s true though, it probably can explain why Dolan and his Knicks might not ever prosper.
