I was just starting to think about writing a post about the Paul to the Lakers deal. To sum that post up — I thought it was a bit of horse ****.

Are the people pulling the strings in New Orleans the proper minds to be making this decision? The Hornets are essentially owned by the league at this point. No, not essentially — they are. It’s hard to know if those in charge have what is best for the Hornets long-term success in their minds.

More than that, it’s a league owned team, and the league would potentially stand to benefit tremendously from another huge star being in their second biggest media market. It just smelt a bit funny to me.

So what happened? On my drive home Paul was all but wearing the purple and gold. Now the deal is dead. Well, apparently a number of owners were “irate” with the deal. They were of the belief that the five-month lockout happened largely to curb big-market teams from bullying smaller-market teams like this.

The fans of New Orleans do deserve a team. A good one. According to ESPN, the Hornets have increased their season ticket base from around 6,000 last season to just over 10,000 as of this week. It a local effort to attract an owner and keep the team in NoLa. Impressive. Very impressive.

Things will get very interesting if the Hornets do end up moving Paul in the near future. As for the Lakers; it seems it is only a matter of time before LA turns Andrew Bynum in to Dwight Howard.
