Last night, the meetings between the NBA and the players' union  failed to deliver the news that every NBA fan had been hoping to hear.

However, recent rumblings have brought to life Commisioner David Stern's newest plan: start the season on December 15 and beging a 72-game regular season.

"I would not presume to project or predict what the union would do. I can hope, and my hope is the events of next week will lead us to a 72-game schedule starting on Dec. 15," said Stern.

After this weekend, talks will once again resume, but unfortunately for the fans, this proposal appears not to satisfy the needs of the union.

"No way this deal gets taken (by the players). They didn't move on any system issues that concerned us," said a source close to the players, according to ESPN.com. "It's still basically (like) a hard cap with very restrictive rules for player movement."

The lack of willingness to compromise and come to a resolution is a perfect example of the greed being displayed by both the owners and the players.

Now I can't speak on behalf of the players (or the owners, for that matter), but I just don't understand how it can be beneficial for the players not to play the season even if it means they agree to a deal that is below there interests.

But at this point in time -- after 130 days of the lockout -- it's clear that this has nothing to do with the passion of the game; it's all about the money, the incentives, and the reveune.
