The Suns announced Sunday morning that Lindsey Hunter, previously the team's player development coordinator, will be the team's interim coach following Friday's firing of Alvin Gentry. It was believed that the Suns' choice would be Hunter or top assistant coach Elston Turner, with assistant Dan Majerle also a possibility. The 42-year-old Hunter joined the Suns scouting department in 2012 and this season was tasked with working with the team's younger players as the coordinator of the organizations newly formed player development department. He served in a similar post with the Bulls for two years after his retirement in 2009-10. A 17-year NBA veteran as a player, Hunter played with the Pistons (1993-00, 2003-08), Bucks (2000-01), the Lakers (2001-02), Raptors (2002-03) and Bulls (2008-10). A two-time NBA champion with Los Angeles (2001-02) and Detroit (2003-04), the 6-foot-2, 195-pound guard averaged 8.5 points, 2.7 assists and 1.2 steals in 937 career games. The Suns' first game under Hunter will be Wednesday at home against the Kings.
