Found July 09, 2013 on Orlando Magic Daily:
Greetings from Amway Center for Day 3 of the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League. I will ahve more from Summer League throughout the day (and in the coming weeks as I go through all the interviews and notes I have). For now though, as we near the midway point of the festivities, I took some stock of what we have seen from the Magic and from the Summer League in general on The David Baumann Show on Sports Talk Florida 1080 AM in Orlando on Tuesday morning. Our interview touched on Victor Oladipo's performance through two games and the news about Glen Davis' surgery from Monday as well as other issues around the league including the offer for Andrew Bynum from Cleveland. You can listen to the segment by clicking on the link above, or by just clicking here. Speaking of audio, I am re-launching the Orlando Magic Daily Podcast again this week. We are now officially on iTunes and you can subscribe for the latest updates by clicking on this link. I am d...

Dazzling in ‘The City Beautiful,’ expect Magic guard Victor Oladipo to win the 2014 NBA Rookie of the Year Award

Rebounding from a poor performance on Monday, Orlando Magic guard Victor Oladipo flourished in a summer-league game yesterday. Taken second overall out of Indiana by Orlando last month, the 21-year-old Oladipo scored 22 points on 4-of-7 attempts from the floor. An aerial artist famed for diligence and preparation, the 6-foot-5, 215 pound Oladipo has long been criticized for lacking...

Romero Osby trying to impress Magic with consistent effort

ORLANDO, Fla. Romero Osby doesnt have to look far this week at the Orlando Pro Summer League to see that players chosen in the middle to later portions of the second round of the NBA draft can stick around months later when the regular season begins. Two of his Orlando Magic teammates, Kyle OQuinn and Doron Lamb, are proof of that. So are Kim English and Khris Middleton of the...

Defensive energy, chemistry built in Summer League

The Magic are in a unique position this summer league. The roster is full of players that are expected to make the roster. Second-year players Maurice Harkless, Andrew Nicholson and Kyle O'Quinn are playing major minutes. Rookies Victor Oladipo and Romero Osby are expected to be contributors next season. Doron Lamb and DeQuan Jones should fight for roster spots in training...

Report: Magic And Hedo Turkoglu Working On A Buyout

The Orlando Magic and Hedo Turkoglu are reportedly working on a contract buyout that will make the 34 year old veteran, who has 1 year remaining worth $12 million- $6 million guaranteed,  a free agent. Turkoglu only played in 11 games last season due to a hand injury followed by a 20 game suspension for testing positive for a banned steroid. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo...

Stan Van Gundy: It's possible I may never coach again

Stan Van Gundy has an NBA career winning percentage of .641. Thats better than what was put up by Pat Riley, Jerry Sloan, Don Nelson, Larry Brown, Lenny Wilkens, Chuck Daly and several other Hall of Fame coaches. He might not have to worry about ever falling behind any of those guys.Van Gundy, fired in May 2012 as coach of the Orlando Magic, sat out last year and in May told an Orlando...

Thoughts from Orlando Summer League Day 2

Crossover Chronicles' Philip Rossman-Reich will be at the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League all week. He will provide his thoughts on the day's action in this running post throughout the day. Oklahoma City Thunder 79, Orlando Magic 78 Jeremy Lamb had the ball in his hands in the final moment and pulled off a quick crossover to freeze Maurice Harkless...

Jeremy Lamb, Thunder cross up Magic defense

Jeremy Lamb was not having a great shooting day for the Thunder. Confidence though is all about taking the next shot. And Lamb is not short on that. Even late in a game where his team was trailing for much of it -- in Summer League, no less -- and needed timely shooting to get there. The Thunder found their offense and Lamb found his shot in the end. Lamb blew by Victor Oladipo...

Oklahoma City’s Kyle Kuric epically misses uncontested end-of-game lay-up against Magic

I have a sinking suspicion that Oklahoma City’s Kyle Kuric would like this end-of-game lay-up back against the Orlando Magic at the Orlando Summer League. As the Thunder lead by one with less than 7 seconds to play, Thunder guard Jeremy Lamb took the ball from Andrew Nicholson and threw it ahead to Kuric for the uncontested lay-up. That’s when Kuric blew his open lay-up and gave...

Victor Oladipo a bright spot for Magic in summer debut

ORLANDO, Fla. On his first offensive possession Sunday as a member of the Orlando Magic, hours after signing his first professional contract, Victor Oladipo wasnt thinking in terms of shooting first. His deference to his teammates might have been understandable, considering he was the only starter for the Magics entry in the Orlando Pro Summer League not to be a member of team...

76ers' Trade With Pelicans Dependent On Noel, Bennett Or Oladipo Remaining Available

The Philadelphia 76ers and New Orleans Pelicans agreed upon a Jrue Holiday trade a few days before the draft, but it was dependent on Nerlens Noel, Anthony Bennett or Victor Oladipo remaining available. Bennett and Oladipo went first and second to the Cleveland Cavaliers and Orlando Magic respectively. Noel remained available at No. 6 when the Pelicans picked.

Thunder Beat Magic 79-78

The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Orlando Magic by a final score of 79-78 in Summer League play on Monday. Daniel Orton had nine points and seven rebounds while Dwight Buycks had 11 points and five assists. Jeremy Lamb scored 11 points on 4-for-16 shooting. Victor Oladipo had 12 points on 2-for-12 shooting and five assists. Maurice Harkless had 14 points, five rebounds and three steals.

Heat strong-arm Magic

The Miami Heat were at the top of the mountain in the NBA last year, winning their second consecutive championship. The Magic were at the bottom, finishing with the worst record in the league. One team clearly had its program and its philosophy established. One team is still figuring out what kind of team it is going to be. It would have been hard to figure out whehther the...
