The Portland Trail Blazers will have a new head coach for the upcoming campaign, as “NBA.com” reported Tuesday night, that the club has chosen former Dallas Mavericks assistant Terry Stotts to take over the bench, terms of the deal have yet to be reported. The Blazers had narrowed their choices down to Stotts, or interim head coach Kaleb Canales, who became the bench boss of the club for the final 23 games of this past season, after Portland sacked head coach Nate McMillan.
Canales, who ended up with a mark of 8-15, down the stretch for the team, did have the respect of his players, as well as their support for him to get the position, will remain with the team as an assistant on Stotts’s staff next season. The “Oregonian“ reported that the 34-year-old, who started with the Trail Blazers as a video intern, has accepted a slot as assistant. terms of that deal have also yet to be released.
