Thanasis Antetokounmpo shares a hilarious video of fans in China chasing him and his brothers in a taxi

The bond between the Antetokounmpo brothers is as thick as blood, spending a lot of time together. On Wednesday, the prominent basketball siblings—led by Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis, Thanasis, and Alex, who plays for the Bucks’ G League affiliate—arrived in Guangzhou, where they got a taste of the love Chinese fans have for them.

The fans went into a frenzy

China loves its basketball, and in the offseason, the country often plays host to current and former NBA stars. On Wednesday, the Antetokounmpo brothers were greeted by large crowds and even had a group chase them in a taxi through the city streets. Thanasis captured the moment on his Instagram, showing a fan taking off his Giannis jersey and waving it onboard a taxi right beside their bus.

The frenzy was a reminder of the impact the Antetokounmpos have had on basketball in China, where Giannis is one of the most popular players. The brothers posed for pictures with fans, signed autographs, and took in the admiration from the basketball-crazed nation.

Letter Bro

Fans and the media in China affectionately know Giannis as the “Letter Bro.” The nickname stems from the difficulty in pronouncing his rather-long family name. It began in 2017 when a reporter in Milwaukee informed him of this. Amused, Giannis signed off on his new nickname, saying:

“This is my first time that I’ve heard that nickname,” Antetokounmpo said during that exchange. “It’s cool. In China, if people call me like that, it’s cool.”
