Yesterday, the Dallas Mavericks inked Corey Brewer, who was recently bought out by the Knicks after being acquired by them from Minnesota in the three-team Carmelo Anthony trade. Tweeted @DrewUnga on the news: “3 years and $7.3 million for Corey Brewer? For what? Winning two NCAA titles? Head scratcher.” My sentiments exactly. How, exactly, has Brewer proven himself to be a good NBA player? By averaging 9 points a game over three-plus seasons for the horrid T’wolves? I was surprised at the many who touted his potential high value to contenders this spring and the ensuing interest in him by those contenders. How has he earned such regard? I think the answer is that he hasn’t, but that he passes the eye test. He was an excellent all-around college player, in particular, perhaps the best wing defender in recent men’s NCAA history.
