The Dallas Mavericks: A Case for Blowing it All Up

Yes, this story comes on the cusp of a Mavs win vs the Spurs, of course minus Manu. Yeah, good for the Mavs! Of course that will be followed by a loss, then a win, then a loss, then a win, then a loss. Do you see the trend this season? We won't go into it on this particular article, referring to the idiocy of trading for an aging star(Jason Kidd), with a younger, up and coming star in Devin Harris. It's history, and sadly I think it has ultimately sealed the fate of this crop of Mavs. The current Mavs are akin to that really hot looking date that you have on your arm that everyone raves about, but you know has serious mental issues. The Mavs look good at times on the surface, but then you look at a game like the Oklahoma City game recently, and Mavs fans know what I'm talking about, and you say, should a team that is really competing for a championship even have a game like that this late in the season? The answer is no! Fighting for an eighth seed, and for what? The priviledge to get our face beat in again in the playoffs. This team has become happy with wallowing in mediocrity. When did just qualifying for the playoffs become the standard here? The goal was suppose to be an NBA championship. In my mind, it all boils down to this one question, Now pull up a chair Mark Cuban, and listen very carefully to this question. Realistically, Can this current roster go seven games in a playoff series with the Boston's, Lakers, Cleveland's, and San Antonio's of the world. I think the answer is a definitive no! So that leads to a simple solution. Forego the traditional three years of declining production, and send these players off while they still have value. Trade them for picks in the lotto and build a young squad that can truly have their futures in front of them. Unless Mark follows this directive, not suggestion, my prediction of continued mediocrity will continue. Just look at Portland, they had to rebuild and retool and already they are having great results. We must follow the trend or be the oldest team in the NBA. We have a great fanbase and we can rise again!
