In a game that did not mean anything in the regular NBA standings, the players looked like they were playing for something. Last night’s NBA All-Star game got very competitive towards the end of the game. The West ended up winning the game 143-138. MVP Chris Paul’s presence was everywhere. He had 20 points and 4 steals. A more remarkable stat was his 15 assists. His assist total was third in All-Star history following Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas. After the game Paul said, “Pretty special. It’s something that definitely coming into the game I wasn’t trying to achieve or thinking that it might even be possible.” CP3 continued, “You just want to play fast. I like to throw the lob. I like to see guys hit 3s. When we’re out on the court with all that firepower, why wouldn’t you want to make passes? You’ve got KD filling one of the lanes, you’ve got Blake, Kobe on the wing. There’s nothing like it.” Other West All-Star spoke about CP3’s performance. Oklahoma Thunder’s Kevin Durant commented, “He had great passes, making steals, made big buckets. He played a hell of a game and congratulations to him. It was a pleasure playing with him.” Lakers star Kobe Bryant still steamed about the NBA stopping the Chris Paul trade to the Lakers tweeted, “At least lil@CP3 and baby Mamba can play together NBA can’t veto this one Ha!” It seemed that even though Michael Jordan did not play in the game he had an effect on the game. The game was played on the day MJ turned 50 and leading up to the All-Star game there was talk about who was better Kobe or LeBron. Jordan said that Kobe is still the best player in the league and Bryant wanted to back up MJ’s words. It looked like Kobe’s only mission in the 4th quarter was to stop James from scoring. The game was getting close as the 4th quarter came to an end and Bryant’s blocked LeBron’s shot which even amazed Kevin Durant. KD said, “It was a great block. I haven’t really seen any MVP get a jumper blocked like that. It was a really great play.” LeBron spoke about him and Bryant going at it during the 4th quarter by saying, “It was all in good spirit, man. It was just two guys that love to compete, love to go at it. So I had a lot of fun.” Overall for being an All-Star game it lived up to the hype and it was fun to see some defense in a game that usually just calls for all offense.
