From the day he returned to the lineup on on Dec. 15, Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio has had a trying and sometimes tedious experience as he makes his return to regular minutes in his comeback from a knee injury suffered last season. He has regularly skipped the second night of back-to-backs and even stayed back in Minnesota during a recent West Coast road trip. But when the second-year Spanish phenom is on, he demonstrates with abundant clarity that he can still pass the rock, doing things few point guards in the NBA can do. During Wednesday’s tilt against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Rubio delivered a jaw-dropping dish. In an amazing sequence, Rubio bounced the pass first between his legs then between the legs of two Thunder defenders. Wow. That pass should have been put in quarantine because it was straight sick. Almost as sick as I am after typing that last line. Sheesh. Speaking of “sheesh,” sadly, something named Lou Amundson couldn’t convert the bucket, highlighting what was a disappointing road game for Kevin Love-less Wolves, as the injury-ravaged squad fell to the hometown Thunder by a score of 106-84. Still, as Rubio works himself back to 100%, it won’t be surprising to see much more of this kind of on-court magic on a regular basis.
