Thunder sign two-way player Aaron Wiggins to four-year, $6.4M contract

Aaron Wiggins has been a pleasant surprise for the Thunder as a two-way player ever since they drafted him at the tail-end of last summer's draft — so much so that they're bumping him up to the NBA full-time.

Wiggins and Oklahoma City reached agreement on a new four-year contract Saturday, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. The deal is worth $6.4 million and has a team option on the fourth year.

The Thunder took Wiggins 55th overall in the second round out of Maryland and inked him to a two-way deal out of camp. Two-way players split time between the NBA team and its G-League affiliate — in this case, the Oklahoma City Blue — with a cap on how many games they can play with the big league squad.

Wiggins has appeared in 31 games with the Thunder this season, including 18 starts, and is averaging 21.9 minutes per game. He holds averages of 7.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists per contest and is shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 32.9 percent from beyond the arc.

Oklahoma City currently sits 14th in the Western Conference at 17-38 and entered Saturday holding the fourth-best lottery odds were the season to end today.
