Timberwolves' D’Angelo Russell excited over Rudy Gobert acquisition

The Minnesota Timberwolves have made the biggest move of the offseason thus far with their acquisition of Rudy Gobert.

For the massive price of Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley,  Leandro Bolmaro, Walker Kessler, Jarred Vanderbilt, a 2023 first-rounder, a 2025 first-rounder, a 2026 pick swap, a 2027 first-rounder and a 2029 first-round pick the Wolves walked away with a three-time Defensive Player of the Year award winner.

Whether they overpaid or not is going to be debated for many years to come.

This week, guard D’Angelo Russell opened up about the Gobert trade and what it means for his future going forward.

“I’ve never played with a team on paper that’s this good,” Russell told Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic. “Obviously on paper, there’s a difference than actual substance of us actually out there putting it together.

“I’m excited to see what it looks like, I’m excited for growing pains, I’m excited for the process. I’m excited for all of that. I’m excited for our growth as a team. It could be anybody’s night.”

Russell was also asked if he wanted to extend his time in Minnesota with a new deal.

“Hell yeah,” he replied. “Obviously every player wants an extension, and you want to be in a position to do that.”

When he is good and healthy, Russell has an All-Star ceiling. His time with the Brooklyn Nets proved that. But he is constantly hounded by injuries and inefficient play as well.
