Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio is a late scratch against the Phoenix Suns because of back spasms. Rubio worked out before the game on Saturday but was not able to play. It was a disappointing setback for Rubio, who recently was allowed to play more minutes in his recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. He is considered day to day with the injury. The Timberwolves have three days off coming up before their next game, so Rubio likely will be ready to go by then. Rubio made his season debut this month after sitting out the first six weeks while working his way back from a torn ACL in his left knee. He is averaging 4.2 points and 4.0 assists since his return.

MINNEAPOLIS Ricky Rubio did not practice Monday after missing Saturday's game against Phoenix with back spasms. The point guard began feeling back pain and stiffness on Friday at practice, and it got worse from there. He warmed up Saturday and hoped as late as an hour before the game that he'd be able to play, but he still felt too stiff, he said. Rubio said that he feels...

Report: Roy has knee setbacks

Brandon Roy has reportedly faced more setbacks while rehabbing his knee. He has played in only five games for Minnesota this year.

Wolves experienced pleasure and pain in 2012

MINNEAPOLIS In the NBA, the distinction between Dec. 31, 2012 and Jan. 1, 2013 is nil. The season continues, the games keep on coming and teams are largely the same as they were the night before. Regardless, though, there's some finality to the end of a calendar year, especially for a team like the Timberwolves that's so dramatically different today than it was at the end...

Timberwolves' Brandon Roy Seeking Additional Treatment Options

Brandon Roy is not ready to retire.  Although he did step away from the game for a seasons, retiring because of chronic issues with his knees, Roy came back this year.  He played well, but the knee problems came back.  He's not ready to pull the trigger quite as fast on retirement this time around though. According to an Associated Press report, Roy will seek a more intensive...

Timberwolves only need to remember the 'W'

MINNEAPOLIS J.J. Barea raised his arms in incredulity, the most J.J. Barea of shrugs. It was directed mostly at the refs -- he ended up with a technical foul -- but at least partly at the shot he'd just accidentally assisted. It was the sloppiest kind of pretty. As the clock ticked down at the end of the third quarter, Barea had just heaved a shot while teetering beyond the...

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Brandon Roy had a setback in recovering from his latest knee surgery and his return in uncertain, according to Yahoo! Sports. Roy, who has had seven knee surgeries during his career and came out of retirement this season, was scheduled to begin practicing Friday. However, he was unable to go Friday and Saturday. Wolves Friday: Looking ahead to January

MINNEAPOLIS The Timberwolves have just one game remaining in 2012, and now that we're two months into the season, it's a bit easier to evaluate what lies ahead. Most preseason analysis now seems irrelevant -- I clearly remember counting a November matchup against Golden State as a likely win and noting that the Timberwolves were fortunate not to face the Lakers until February...

Pekovic, Love lead Timberwolves to 111-107 win over Suns

MINNEAPOLIS – Two-time All Star Kevin Love worked overtime the last three days in an effort to carry himself and his team successfully into 2013, and then teammate Nikola Pekovic took the Timberwolves there in Saturday’s 111-107 victory over Phoenix at Target Center. Losers of big leads in consecutive games before Saturday, the Wolves watched a nine-point, third-quarter lead...

Derrick Williams bricks alley-oop (Video)

Derrick Williams had a decent showing in Minnesota’s 111-107 win over Phoenix Saturday, but he probably would have like to have this alley-oop attempt back. Williams got a long pass from Alexey Shved and tried dunking it home except the rim got in the way. The result was a pretty solid brick for the blooper reel. Video via @cjzero

Roy Suffers Setback In Return From Knee Surgery

Brandon Roy's new return date is uncertain.

Timberwolves 111, Suns 107

MINNEAPOLIS -- Two-time All Star Kevin Love put in three days worth of hard work in an attempt to carry himself and his team successfully into 2013, and then teammate Nikola Pekovic took the Timberwolves there in Saturday’s 111-107 victory over Phoenix at Target Center. Sidetracked most of the season by injury, illness and some untimely comments made to Yahoo! Sports, Love stayed...
